We took the decision to reopen this morning as we felt we had achieved everything we were going to achieve from this situation, however I do feel a serious lack of optimism over second life today. What keeps me here? Yes I do earn money and no one can afford to just toss that away but I could just log in, drop the items and log out except that I have the best and nicest customers in the world. People who sent me hugs when we closed and understood how we felt. They are the ones who keep me logging in, who help me enjoy sharing the things I make and who make it all worthwhile. Thank you for your support, you are special people.

Thank you for understanding our need to make a stand and make a protest at LL. This was never aimed at you but I know you realise that. We also needed time to find out more about this copybot, what was behind it, and give people time to put some sort of protections in place and closing seemed the thing to do on all fronts.

Even though we have opened our doors the issue of copybot, those that were sold on the grid before the LL statement about the TOS violation, is still there. Today more has been revealed about those working with libsl, people who have apparently mocked the content creators of second life and blatently made remarks about their ’stealer.’ Whether they were joking or in earnest, this is a spiteful mockery of people who work hard in SL, some supporting their kids and other family members through their talent.

After the disclosure of an irc log and a picture on their site named stealing.jpg of what looks like copybot testing of the reproduction of in world vehicles, a website announcement by John Hurlimen said; “The libsecondlife team was disappointed this morning to learn that several days ago, Baba Yamamoto and Nimrod Yaffle were both aware of and flaunting the misuse potential of the CopyBot test-suite. Mindless of the consequences of their actions, they persisted in demonstrating and distributing the application. In light of this betrayal of our trust and reckless attitude toward intellectual property concerns, we will not permit them to stand alongside us.”

I hope that Linden Labs representatives realise how unacceptable this is from people who are apparently endorsed by them to work on the development of second life. Perhaps it’s time they started to work with some grown ups.
